Big but small – is that even possible?

What if – I want those intimate wedding venues for 2 but in a really grand location?

Today, I want to look into something, every couple that wants to plan their wedding, will go through, at some point. It’s the “I’d like this but not like that” moment, when it’s hard to put a finger on exactly what I have in mind for the perfect day.
What if – I long for a big venue but don’t want to sell my left kidney to make it happen?
What if – I want a string quartet yet a party where me and my guests dance all night?

Big but small – it doesn’t really sound like that is possible. And to be honest, no one, absolutely nobody, can create miracles, as much as we’d all like to sell you one :). But fear not! Here at Wolkenkuckuck we have found some solid solutions. We will give you the tools to get what you want. So let’s start with the last of the three conundrums mentioned earlier: You want a look at intimate wedding venues for 2 in a really grand location.

This is a question I get quite often asked by couples. So please remember, you are absolutely not alone with this. Now, let’s say you are contemplating a destination wedding in Austria. You are on our site, so that means, you probably are. Chances are you going to come across these classic locations first:

Schönbrunn Palace and Belvedere Palace in Vienna, Mirabell Palace and Castle Leopoldskron in Salzburg, Melk Abbey in Lower Austria and Hallstatt in Tyrol.

The first hurdle for all of these Austrian dream locations will be to overcome the crowds. In a “normal” year, large hoards of tourists roll over each of them, almost(!) constantly. But here is the thing, all of them can be booked outside opening times. The obvious exception is Hallstatt in Tyrol. Belvedere palace even offers exclusive guided tours. A photo opp in front of The Kiss, the famous masterpiece of Austrian painter Gustav Klimt is a must. This is particularly sweet for an engagement proposal, too!

You can request a photo permission directly from the Belvedere palace to take pictures in front of The Kiss when you purchase tickets for the exhibition. While you will visit the palace during busy opening hours this is more than offset by the fact that since you purchased tickets to go see an exhibition, your partner will never see the proposal coming!

Royal Splendour for your wedding in Vienna’s Schoenbrunn Palace

Royal fans couples may delight over a new attraction in Vienna – the Schönbrunn Palace Grand Suite. Couples can rent the 167 m2 Grand Suite from €599,- per Person per night. The suite is directly located in the east wing of the royal residence .

In Schönbrunn, it’s easy to get carried away by all the grandeur. While the gentle quiet surroundings of the Orangerie gardens provide a welcome relief from the crowds, the hedges and rows of beautiful flowers create a stunning counterbalance to the lavish architecture around you.

Schloss Schönbrunn Grand Suite: Übernachten Sie im Schloss in Wien

Wedding packages in Schönbrunn Palace include a new and affordable outdoor option in their Orangerie gardens. This offers an intimate setting during the summer months (bad weather option available at no extra charge). Empress Maria Theresia favoured this area of her palace grounds. The grand Orangerie used to house a large collection of exquisite fruit trees.

It is easy to fall in love with Austrian wedding locations and I am sure that you will find what you need. For now, this is enough information to digest, I would say. Why don’t you sit back and relax for a moment, with a glass of wine, bubbly or a nice hot cup of coffee or tea and think about what it is exactly, that would make all the difference to you at your wedding.

Next time I will be in Schloss Leopoldskron and will bring you information such as maximum and minimum numbers, special deals and unique opportunities. Until then, Take care and stay safe!
